Kurt Busch Qualifies 6th in Phoenix
November 9, 2012
Kurt Busch will start sixth in Sunday's AdvoCare 500 Sprint Cup Series race at Phoenix International Raceway.
In Friday's time trials, Busch's No. 78 Furniture Row/Farm American Chevrolet covered the one-mile oval in 26.276 seconds at 137.007 miles per hour. It was his best qualifying effort since joining Furniture Row Racing in mid
October. His previous best was 18th, which came in last week's race at Texas Motor Speedway.
"We've been working on our qualifying program and today was a positive result for the team," said Busch, who was 18th fastest in the earlier practice session. "It was an interesting lap and we were on the edgy side. I still think there was more speed in the track, but we'll take sixth -- it's important to start up front here."
The pole winner was Kurt's brother Kyle, who recorded a lap time and speed of 25.943 at 138.766. Rounding out the top-10 in order were: Martin Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin, Kasey Kahne, Aric Almirola, Busch, Paul Menard, Regan Smith, Tony Stewart and Mark Martin.
Sunday's race will be televised on ESPN, beginning with a 60-minute prerace show at noon MT (2 p.m. ET).
